▶쿠반 귀로(cuban guiro)라고도 한다.
인디오족의 원시악기나 브라질의 레코레코(reco-reco) 같은 악기로서
‘차차차’ 음악에 중요한 악기이다. 표주박처럼 생긴 빈통에 톱니자국
같은 홈을 내고 그 표면을 나무에 쇠를 붙인 것으로 철사로 만든 솔이나
막대기로 표피를 긁어 소리를 내는데, 원래 미국의 흑인들 사이에서는
긁어서 소리 내는 악기가 아주 대중적이었다.
▶일반적으로 그룹의 싱어가 왼손으로 사운드 홀을 쪽을 쥐고 연주하며,
몸통을 문질러서 소리를 낸다.
푸에르토리코에서는 나무로 된 스틱을 사용하고, 도미니카에서는 가느다란
쇠막대를 사용하는데 메렝게(merengue) 음악의 특징적인 사운드를 만든다.

The LP Super Guiro was designed to eliminate the durability issues inherent with the natural version of this instrument. It is precision-molded from high-strength plastic and is designed to have the shape, feel, and sound quality of the natural gourd version.
Special attention has been paid to the location of the rubber-lined finger holes to provide maximum comfort and control. It comes with two scrapers, a plastic model for bright loud sound and a wood model for warm dry sound.
